YK-88A-1 AM Filter Upgrade For Kenwood R-5000 Radio Receiver TS-940 Transceiver

Description

This is a 6 KHz AM filter supplied by Kenwood as a replacement for the stock filters found inside the Kenwood R-5000 receiver and the TS-940 transceiver.  It is unknown what other Kenwood transceivers may also use this filter, but we believe there are additional units that may utilize this filter.
Kenwood supplied a filter with the R-5000 receiver, but it did not have very good skirt characteristics and this allowed interference from adjacent stations, whistles, and hetrodynes.  Kenwood released this upgraded filter which had better skirts and thus provides for a better receiving experience, but the filter was an investment over the original price and many owners chose to avoid the upgrade.  As a result, this filter is highly sought after, but not commonly found for sale.  We have previously sold a number of Kenwood filters here on Ebay, but rarely offer this YK-88A-1 filter.
Installation of the filter in the R-5000 is easy.  You remove the top cover for the R-5000 using a Phillips screwdriver (8 screws to remove) and then locate the stock AM filter inside the receiver.  It is also held into place by 2 Phillips screws.  Once you remove the screws for the filter, it unplugs and you then plug in this YK-88A-1 filter and use the 2 screws to secure it into place.  You then replace the top cover and you are done with the installation....it is that easy and there is no soldering required.  We expect that this process will take about 15 minutes to complete.  We have not installed this filter inside any of the Kenwood transceivers, but suspect that installation is also easy and non-technical.
