Description
The Vintage Collins 75S-1 receiver is a high-end communications receiver covering the Amateur Radio HF bands. In the early 1960s, the unit sold for about 0.As we prepared this unit listing, we made the following observations…
The unit is in good physical condition. The front panel is “like new”, although the case and rear panel have marks/scratches due to age and use.
With an external antenna, SSB and CW signals were easily tuned and received clearly.
The radio covers five hame bands -- 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters. Actual coverage is as follows:
3.4 - 4.0 MHz
7.0 - 7.4 MHz
14.0 - 15 MHz
21.0 - 21.6 MHz
28.5 - 28.7 MHz
This particular unit is not configured with a CW option -- i.e. no narrow CW filter. Although CW signals can be received clearly in SSB mode. [Without the CW option, the receiver is dead when the EMISSION switch is in the CW position -- this is normal.]
All controls operate as expected and turn freely.
The 100KHz calibration function operated as expected.
The unit exhibited Collins’ legendary stability and selectivity.
Using a calibrated signal generator, -107 dBm signals were detected (~S6) on 80 through 15 meter bands. (my signal generator did not cover the 10 meter band)
The signal strength meter responded as expected. A -72 dBm signals were received with an S9 signal strength.
The previous owner had installed an internal speaker using nylon screws through the existing holes in the top of the case. This could easily be removed if desired.
A copy of the 75S-1 instruction manual is included.
