Here is a very nice example of the CR88A version of the AR88 receiver. S# 1450. It is from 1945 or so. This comes with the original cabinet and the original meter with makes it even rarer as many were sold for diversity receivers without the meters, and also for commercial rack systems with out a cabinet. The front panel is RCA medium brown color and silk screened. The cabinet is the matching wrinkle finish medium brown, or umber. This has not been restored and is 99% original. I'm amazed that I found one in this nice of condition. I was fortunate that a good friend was willing to let go of it. I have enjoyed it for a short while and hate to see it go. I had to clean a couple of switches and controls, then I slowly turned it on with a variac. I was able to receive broadcast band, shortwave, and ham stations.
Overall I was very happy and you will be to. There is an RCA jack on the rear that ties into T3 an IF transformer. I assume for monitoring or a SSB adapter. All the controls seem to work as they should and it receives on all bands. The new owner may want to align replace worn out parts etc, but I like to leave things original. Cosmetically there is a small crack in the meter glass, very hard to see in person. Also there is some light paint over spray spots that you can see in the picture. I think you will be impressed with how nice this 60 plus year old radio looks, I know I was. Please see pictures for actual cosmetic condition.
