Icom IC-R72 Shortwave AM SSB CW Radio Receiver ***UNCOMMON IN USA**

Description

This sale is for an Icom IC-R72 communications receiver manufactured by Icom from 1990-1998.  In his book, "Shortwave Receivers Past and Present", Fred Osterman gives a rarity rating of this receiver as "common".  However, in the 16 years of selling communications receivers and shortwave radios here on Ebay, this is only the second time that we have had one of these pass through our hands to offer for sale.  During that time, we have sold many scarce and unusual pieces of equipment, but rarely the IC-R72 receiver.
The IC-R72 is used and there are a variety of minor marks on it from prior ownership.  While nothing in particular is noteworthy or truly eye-catching, this is not a pristine unit and so we ask that you please observe our pictures to see precise cosmetic detail.
Operationally the receiver has been tested and we found it to operate as designed with no known issues or shortcomings.  The receiver was confirmed to have good sensitivity.

From what we can determine, this R72 was the HF band version of the R71A.  At the same time, Icom manufactured the IC-R7100 for FM/VHF/UHF so that if you had both the R72 and the R7100, you would have coverage extending from 100 KHz to 2 GHz and thus often coined DC to Daylight reception since the receiving range goes from longwave up to the microwave spectrum.
We tested this receiver, but did not spend a lot of time with it due to time constraints.  Thus, we are really not able to share much with you regarding our personal opinions concerning the R72.  But we would like to provide a list of features that was found in the Icom promotional literature for this receiver:
