Collins 75S3 ReceiverManual, Power Cable, 200 Cycle CW Filter
Working, belonged to a former Collins employee. Has been in dry storage since 1998. Includes 200 cycle crystal filter, factory manual and
power cable.
This is a blue collar receiver - not a museum piece. There is a minor paint scuff on the left side of the cabinet, one small scuff on the top of the trim ring, and dirt and grime on the chassis top and knobs. The lid finger hole has minor wear spots. The keyway on the power connector has a chipped tip, but you still can't plug the power cable in incorrectly. The entire receiver could use a good cleaning and cosmetic restoration. There may be some bandswitch contact dirt, occasionally a switch position requires a slight knob jiggle. Probably will need main filter caps replaced eventually but currently the receiver works well with no hum in the audio.
Looks like all original parts, including electrolytics and resistors. No mods or ham hacks or updates noted, except original owner changed the 14.8 band position to a 13.1550 crystal which puts that band on 10MC instead of 15. This covers 10MC WWV rather than 15MC WWV, and also covers the 10.1 MC ham band. The preselector is set to 3.5 for this crystal/band combination. One #47 lamp was burned out and replaced with a diffused LED type. A quick
alignment check using the Crystal Calibrator signal per manual instructions did not show any unusual performance problems or abnormal conditions. None of the ceramic trimmer caps are stuck.
This receiver is sensitive, quiet, signals jump out of the bandpass. The Collins crystal filter part number X4-5KO-Q200 is extremely sharp, and requires careful attention to tune in a weak CW signal.
Date code on the 100KC crystal is 1-61, a random crystal from the HFO is dated 6-61.
