The first few production runs of the SX-28 receivers have a several differences from the later production units.

left the Hallicrafters' plant on
October 29, 1940
- about two months after the SX-28 introduction and most likely from the second production run. It has most of the characteristics of the first SX-28 receivers, e.g., the front panel is painted blue-gray, no upper-center panel screws flanking the main dial bezel are used, it has the early style ANL circuit. By the time this receiver was built though, Hallicrafters had already changed the first RF amp tube from a 6SK7 to a 6AB7

that was manufactured in 1940.. This model was the 1st released series during  WWII (when the SX-28 was made available to the public).
The set does
not come with a speaker
but we do have a number of Hallicrafters speakers (Pre- and Post-WWII PM-23s) available for an additional charge (and separate shipping).

The SX-28 is a very popular Hallicrafters set and during WWII were only available to government agencies to support the war effort. After WWII Hallicrafters produced these for the booming civilian market and represented the best you could get for a heavy duty-rated communications radio set. A highly tuned and aligned SX-28 rivals modern shortwave systems in sensitivity and selectivity - and was state-of-the-art when they were produced!
This particular radio has had over 0 "re-capped" work completed and is mostly in original but in very cleaned up condition. The set tunes well, has good reception on all bands, and BFO - crystal - S Meter - and A.N.L. all function.  Notice from the pictures it does have the proper bottom plate and is very clean. The set performs very well and has great 'curb appeal'. The case is in great condition and sharply painted. This set is also 3-prong A/C plug
converted.
If you buy this set, please let me know if you are interested in also obtaining a pre-WWII PM-23 or the WWII and later PM-23 to go with the set (we have both in immaculate condition and are for sale only with the SX-28's we have).
